Rajesh Kumar Goyal Lecturer English After Shah Abdiul Latif Bhitai, Sheikh Ayaz is the next greatest poet of Sindhi Literature. The themes of his poetry are universal and muitidimensional. His poetry teems with the spirit of nationalism, romanticism, love, truth and beauty struggle, humanity and revolution. Ayaz was a well-versed and well read person. He read thoroughly all the famous poetrs of all the major languages of the world. In his autobiographical book Kithe Na Bhanjbo Thak vecorded his impression of the great names of world literature. He was well aware of national sonle of Sindh but also of the whole world. The horrors of Second World War, bornbing of Nagasaki Miroshimia, dreadful repercussions of the partition of subcontinent, woes of Sindhi people in One Unit n and atrocities of dictatorship caught the equal attention of Ayaz and were the dominant themes of his oetry which proves him a true lover of human being regardless of difference of any kind. Avar being change loving, challenged the status quo and brought modernity and innovation both in content and diction and form in poetry. His poetry is against dominant forces, narrow-mindedness and so-called traditional norms and values of his era. Being true romanticist, he rejects the traditional concept of spiritual platonic love and embraces metaphysical love of John Donne and Sigmund Freud in which sex is the essence of true love, In diction and form he brought new trends in different genres of Sindhi Poetry. He revived classical forms of boet, Anofi and waai, which had become extinct after Shah Latif and Sachal. He freed Ghazal from Persian influence and gave color of pure Sindhi language. Instead of subjectivism which had been dominant theme in Ghazal, he gave more importance to objectivism and brought the theme of struggle and social issues in Ghazal along with and international events and happenings of his era. He penned down not only the suffering and plight of love and admiration of beauty. Ayaz produced a lot of revolutionary and resistant poetry to wage a war against the dictator of his era Ayub Khan. His pen seemed to be mightier than sword and infused the spirit of vigor and defiance in the youth of Sind and united them against brutalities and injustice of perpetrators. How many voices shali thou silence? O dictator! Another great quality of Ayaz's poetry besides its universality, innovation and resistance is its moving music. One can find his all kinds of poetry such Geet, Nazam, and Ghazal full of rhythm and melody. His poetry was sung and echoed in every nook and comer of Sindh. His poetic dramas (Operas) Dode Soomre Jo Mot, Bhagat Singh Khe Phaahi are replete with music, His touching music proves him an inspiring and great poet on the criterion unat great poetry is one that can be sung given by great critic of nineteenth century English Literature Thomas Tam not alone, but many. Al great poets, scholars and intellectuals were at times misunderstood and criticized by opponents as well as by irers. Sheikh Ayaz is no exception, His crowning success brought scathing criticism against him. Some die na adversaries branded him egoist and arrogant and tried to let him down by attacking his character but all ese alegations became futile and ineffective against his towering and giant stature. Keeping in view his numențal contribution in the field of Literature, there is no exaggeration in saying that Ayaz is the greatest poet of Sindhi literature after Latif. Carlyle. Perceive the pearls he carries, Do not pelt him with stones, For the minstrel will not return
